Fire, Health and Safety
Fire
If there is a fire, evacuate all guests, and phone 999, and ask for the Fire Brigade. The address is The Coach House, Lower Thurston, Thurston Lane, Sardis, Milford Haven, SA73 1LD. Fire evacuation is via the stairs, and exits from the ground floor are by the main door, patio doors, and kitchen door. Do not tackle any fire yourself unless you are confident and the fire is small. There is a powder fire extinguisher and a fire blanket near the kitchen external door.
There are 3 smoke detectors inside, ceiling-mounted, located in the master bedroom, in the lounge at the bottom of the stairs, and on the landing at the top of the stairs. These are connected to the main electrical supply, with an additional back-up battery. The detectors are not linked to the emergency services. They should have a small green light to show they are on and active; an orange or red light indicates a fault; a regular “chirp” noise indicates the back-up battery needs replacing – please contact us if the detectors need attention. In the event of fire or smoke, the detectors will make a very loud beeping noise. If you have accidently triggered a detector, e.g. by burning your toast or leaving the coffee percolator on too long, you may silence the alarm by pressing the button on the detector.
In addition, there is a heat detector, externally in each of the car ports. These operate in a similar way to the smoke detectors.
A small battery-operated carbon monoxide detector is located near to the log burner. This is to detect any carbon monoxide emission from the log burner. Again, this will make a loud noise if triggered.
Health and Safety
Please keep children away from the log burner when in use; there is a fireguard at the side of the log burner if required. Please keep the matches away from children, and store them on the high shelf in the utility cupboard.
The water supply is from our private enclosed well connected to a deep water source. No chemicals are added. The water is passed through a micro filtration system to remove any particles, and an ultraviolet filter system to remove any bacteria. The local council test the water annually for adverse bacteria and contaminants – all tests have been passed and the water is drinkable.
If you bring a dog, please ensure any dog waste is bagged and put in the special outside bin. Please keep dogs on a lead in our shared gardens and on the access lane and bridleway.
Please supervise children in the gardens, and don’t let them climb the garden walls, trees or shrubs. In particular, please be aware of our pond in the shared gardens is around 3 or 4 feet (1 or 1.2m) deep, there is a steep bank on one side, and it is unfenced. No swimming or boating or dogs in the pond, please. In addition, the access lane is used by horse riders, cyclists and passing motor traffic (the delivery drivers typically drive at speed) – so please supervise children on or near the access lane. Parts of the access lane are used or crossed by large farm vehicles, take care when walking or driving along the access lane.
Use of the equipment in the garden shed, including the barbeques and beach gear, is at your own risk.
